About Cav. Dr. med. Alessandro Rustia
Cav. Dr. med (I) Alessandro Rustia is a highly accomplished neurosurgeon with extensive experience across Italy, Germany, and Switzerland. He has been recognized as a Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic and holds medical licenses in Rome, Munich, and Switzerland. Accredited by the Swiss Federal Commission (MEBEKO) for the practice of neurosurgery, Dr. Alessandro Rustia also holds international recognition from ECFMG/EPIC in the United States for his specialization in neurosurgery. He has been a trusted Consultant for the Civil Court of Rome since 2012.
Dr. Alessandro Rustia graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Florence in 1993 and completed his neurosurgery specialization at the University of Verona, where he developed expertise in the genetic-molecular foundations of glioblastoma. His research has contributed to understanding tumor suppressor genes as prognostic indicators for survival. In 2008, he qualified through open competition as a Neurosurgery Complex Operating Unit Manager, an accomplishment demonstrating his leadership and clinical expertise.
Currently, Dr. Alessandro Rustia is an accredited neurosurgeon at the Cantonal Hospital of Winterthur and the Bethanien Private Clinic in Zurich, Switzerland. His previous roles include Chief of Neurosurgery at Klinikum Ansbach and Klinikum Altmühlfranken Gunzenhausen in Germany, where he led surgical teams and managed complex neurosurgical procedures. Earlier in his career, he held executive and academic positions in Rome, including serving as a professor of neurosurgery at the University of Rome “La Sapienza.”
In addition to his clinical roles, Dr. Alessandro Rustia has made substantial contributions to neurosurgical innovation, holding patents for devices aimed at improving surgical outcomes and safety. He has published extensively, covering topics from traumatic brain injuries to advancements in vertebral surgery, and his work appears in both Italian and international journals.
Dr. Alessandro Rustia is an active member of professional societies such as the Swiss Spine Society, German Spine Society, and Italian Society of Neurosurgery. He speaks Italian, German, and English, allowing him to engage with a diverse range of patients and colleagues internationally.
